The Pluralism Fund

The Pluralism Fund (TPF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that brings together individual philanthropists and foundations committed to collaborative grant making to support the further development of pluralistic civil society in majority Muslim countries in the Middle East and Central Asia.  TPF currently has two countries of focus: Iran and Pakistan.

TPF engages in grass roots, in-country funding as well as sponsoring education days in the United States.  The grass roots funding promotes pluralism, tolerance and respect for the rights of all, particularly women, through the support of local organizations.  The education days are focused on increasing understanding in the United States of Pakistan and Iran as well as broader issues affecting the Middle East and Central Asia.

TPF’s model of engaged philanthropy involves a commitment to understanding root causes of dissonance, and to the promotion in our own communities of a diverse and nuanced view of events and systems that affect Pakistan, Iran and ultimately the United States.  The foundation hosts regular education events throughout the year in different regions of the United States.  International experts in history, politics, human rights, women’s issues, education, and journalism provide valuable perspectives and serve as informal mentors on a variety of topics.

TPF has granted USD 600,000 to organizations related to Iran and Pakistan since 2002.  The Pluralism Fund focuses on groups that advance women's rights and the status of women, and encourage or assist women to find their voices and advocate for themselves. The Fund identifies potential grantees through its network of trusted advisors and partners.
