JORDAN The Global Forum for Media Development, organized by Internews and 17 other organizations, took place in Amman in October, uniting representatives from media support NGOs, independent journalists, broadcasters and media activists from 97 countries to discuss challenges and opportunities facing the media development sector.

INDIA To address India's growing AIDS epidemic, Internews works to improve the quality of reporting on HIV/AIDS in India. In photo above, Dr. Jaya Shreedhar, Technical Health Advisor for Internews, standing on right, appeared on Jackpot, one of India's top-rated TV game shows, to publicize the issue of HIV/AIDS and win funds for anti-retroviral drugs for people living with HIV/AIDS.

CHAD In July, Internews launched a new project in Chad, where it is building a series of radio stations to provide humanitarian news and information to refugees from the Darfur region of Sudan and populations living in remote areas of the country.

MIDDLE EAST Internews works to increase people's access to information through technology such as cell phones and the Internet. Internews promotes regional cooperation among telecom and Internet providers, as in this meeting in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, of information and communications technology providers from nine Arab countries.

AFGHANISTAN-PAKISTAN This summer Internews launched a weekly radio program, Da Pulay Poray (On the Borderline), that is intended to foster peaceful cooperation in the tense Afghanistan-Pakistan border region. Original recordings of traditional music are a major component of the program, which also includes features on women's issues and hot topics such as the return of refugees and religious schools.
