Senior Program Manager, Thailand
Location: Bangkok, Thailand

Background

Internews is a non-profit organization that works to improve access to information for people around the world by fostering independent media and promoting open communications policies in the public interest.
Internews, in partnership with local journalism training and advocacy organizations and universities will implement programs aimed at strengthening independent media in Thailand. Program activities include training for journalists, radio news content production and distribution, media law advocacy, thematic journalism, and media and conflict programs.

The Senior Program Manager provides substantial management support, program development and program implementation to support Thailand programs.

Essential duties and responsibilities of the position include the following; other duties may be assigned:

    • Work with SE Asia Manager to ensure completion of project deliverables according to approved budget and work plan
    • Develop new programming ideas in consultation with SE Asia Manager and lead proposal development
    • Oversee and advise partners in designing training curriculum and production of radio programs
    • Manage training and production grantees, i.e. focusing on work plans, timely reporting
    • Monitor and assess grantees’ output and results, focusing on quality and impact of programs
    • Conduct site visits to grantees for hands-on capacity building program, including IT capacity and radio production skills
    • Contribute information, facts and figures required by SE Asia Manager  for proposals, reports, briefs
    • Advise, if asked, views on long-term strategy for Thailand
    • Maintain close contact with Thai news organizations, universities and media development NGOs for research and relationship-building
    • Liaise with local government officials as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluent written and spoken English and Thai
  • Computer literacy in both English and Thai
  • Experience in media development
  • Substantial Journalism experience
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience managing subgrants and staff
  • Relevant university degree.
