Senior Program Officer
Location: Afghanistan

General Function:
Internews seeks a Senior Program Officer with extensive experience managing development projects. This is an exciting opportunity to join an International NGO working to develop media in Afghanistan. Since 2003 Internews Afghanistan has built 28 community radio stations across Afghanistan, and is in the process of building and renovating 12 more.
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Senior Program Officer will manage Internews’ subgrants program in Afghanistan; and contribute to the management of other media development projects as required. The successful applicant will also provide assistance in implementing various Internews projects as allocated. Internews subgrants program includes partnerships with important media outlets and organizations across the country.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Subgrants:
- Support activities of subgrantees.
- Oversee subgrants, managing work plans and reporting.
- Monitor and evaluate the subgrants focusing on quality and impact
Program Management:
- Assist as required in management of new radio station development, radio network coordination, business development and other areas.
- Oversee public affairs and communications such as newsletters, brochures.
- Prepare or contribute information toward new proposals.
- Contribute to monthly and quarterly reporting
- Help to plan and coordinate Internews sponsored events
- Assist in the implementation of various other Internews projects as requested
Qualifications
- At least 5 years experience managing development programs
- At least 5 years experience managing subgrants
- Familiarity with USAID rules and regulations
- Strong knowledge of the Afghan media environment, or background in media
- Excellent writing skills
- English and local language skills
- Organizational skills with the ability to work unsupervised
- Understanding of financial management
- Relevant tertiary qualification
- Excellent cross-cultural communication skills
- Ability to build relationships
- Proficient in MS Office computer programs
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments
