Humanitarian Media Advisor
Location: Islamabad, Pakistan with travel to border regions including Peshawar, North West Frontier Province

Internews® Network is an international non-profit organization based in Arcata, CA and Washington, D.C. with a mandate to support open media worldwide. The organization fosters independent media in emerging democracies, produces innovative television and radio programming as well as print and Internet content, and uses the media to reduce conflict within and between countries. Internews programs are based on the conviction that vigorous and diverse mass media form an essential cornerstone of a free and open society.

Internews Network is currently seeking a Humanitarian Media Advisor to work in Pakistan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and monitor humanitarian media activities focused on the IDP communities in Pakistan, and ensure that the overall objectives and deliverables of these media projects are met;
  • Conduct trainings, in-house mentoring, oversee new small grants in coordination with Pakistan office HQ staff and identify opportunities to partner with existing and emergent media organizations including those that are engaging alternative public platforms of news about the humanitarian crisis;
  • Conduct technical training and mentoring at Production Partner location in Islamabad and provide guidance to staff and consultants to ensure humanitarian programming goals are met. Core goals include training 30 journalists, and ensuring 7 half hour radio programs incorporating programs of participating partner organizations each week are produced about humanitarian issues.
  • Engage the community of humanitarian media organizations in regular liaison for information production to demonstrable outcomes.
  • Coordinate with other Internews programs and staff regularly in Pakistan; ensure complementary activities and engagements with partners.
  • Report to the Chief of Party Pakistan, based in Islamabad.
  • Ensure financial and programmatic compliance with US Rules and Regulations as well as Internews policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MS degree in Mass Communications or related field
  • Intimate Knowledge of the region and of media organizations, preferably radio.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian (preferred), health or social media
  • Prior work experience as media trainer or media manager in an international organization.  
  • 10-15 years work experience
  • English fluency essential, Pashto or Urdu speakers preferred
