Resident Journalism Advisor / Radio Production Specialist - Haiti
Location: Port-Au-Prince, Haiti

Background:

Internews' programs are built on the conviction that providing people with access to vibrant, diverse news and information empowers them to make their voices heard and to participate effectively in their communities.

General Function:

The Resident Journalism Advisor provides manages a team of Haitian journalists to produce a daily humanitarian radio production and mentors a broad-network of Haitian journalists from media outlets across the country.  Brings professional journalism skills, including production, editing and presenting. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produces local radio programming
  • Coordinates distribution of regional media information and programs
  • Coordinates in-house mentors, their reporting schedules, activities, and curriculums
  • Coordinates with other NGOs to facilitate on-site trainings at regional radio stations and trainings conducted at the Internews office.
  • Encourages radio companies in the area of news programming, ethical journalism practices and to revamp management techniques for business advancement.
  • Organizes and teaches seminars and workshops for local radio station professionals.
  • Helps develop curriculum for management and basic journalism seminars
  • Prepares and assembles materials for monthly and quarterly reports, in compliance with donor guidelines.
  • Reports to and strategizes with Chief of Party on new directions to help independent media in region.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • *French and/or Creole language skills required*
  • Extensive radio news broadcasting experience
  • Radio station training experience in the region and/or disaster affected areas
  • Radio station management experience
  • Experience living and working in region and/or disaster affected areas
  • Ability to handle multi-faceted programs
  • Ability to adjust to shifting political circumstances and create programming accordingly
  • Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the work place
  • Relevant university degree
