Pakistan Online News PCHR, Internews Pakistan sign MoU to promote media freedom in PakistanOctober 29, 2005 ISLAMABAD: Parliamentarian Commission for Human Rights (PCHR) and Internews Pakistan on Friday signed on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at supporting open communication regimes including media friendly policies to promote media freedom in Pakistan. The MoU was signed by Adnan Rehmat on behalf of Internews Pakistan and Kashmala Tariq MNA on behalf of the Parliamentarian Commission for Human Rights. On this occasion, Kashmala Tariq MNA stressed that the relief goods should reach the deserved people and the government should take all the measures in this regard. She said that the media could play a vital role to highlight the issues relating to the distribution of the relief goods to the affected person in the quake stricken areas. She said that a six-member committee should be formed comprising representatives from media, politicians, local government, Army, civil administration and civil society to carry out the relief activities. This team should be sent to the quake affected areas so that the distribution of relief goods could be ensured, she said. Country Director, Internews Pakistan Adnan Rehmat said that media men had suffered a lot in the worst ever earthquake, which jolted northern parts of the country. He said that it was a dire need to take action for the rehabilitation of the affected local media men in the quake-affected areas. He appreciated the role of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority on issuance of FM Radio licences for emergency relief information in the earthquake-affected areas. |
