Some 2,100 Russians sign letter in support of NGO head under investigation
May 9, 2007
Colleagues of Manana Aslamazyan, head of the Educated Media Foundation,
have forwarded a letter in her protection to the presidential
administration."A letter has been officially forwarded to the
presidential administration and there will be an official answer
after an appropriate amount of time. There are no other means to
draw attention of the authorities and to influence them. That is
why such form
as a letter has appeared," Yuliya Muchnik, member of the Russian
Academy of Television, said on the air of the Ekho Moskvy radio.
"It
is curious that a letter put on the website is signed by new
people every day. They already appear independently of each other.
Somehow people find out about this letter and continue to sign
it in protection and support for Manana and Internews [an NGO].
[TV presenter] Vladimir Vladimirovich Pozner signed this letter
yesterday [8 May]. It is very pleasant that people continue to
follow the development
of this story, that they are not indifferent to everything what
is going on and continue to support Internews," Muchnik said.
She added that 2137 people had signed the letter.
