Internews Celebrates International Women’s DayKeep radio for Darfuri refugee women on the airDear Friend, If you were in eastern Chad this Sunday, you would be able to hear Darfuri refugee women on the radio talking about how they have coped with the aftermath of rape and torture. For these women, who carry physical and emotional scars of the genocide, the Internews team produces She Speaks, She Listens, a ground-breaking radio program dedicated to the women of Darfur who have suffered and continue to suffer due to ignorance and fear.
To mark International Women's Day, March 8, Internews is honoring women helping women and the increasingly influential role that women are playing in media around the world in this slideshow, Internews Celebrates Women in Media. If these issues are important to you, help us to continue making programs like She Speaks, She Listens possible by supporting this vital programming. The program is produced by local female journalists (see profile of Houda Malloum) mentored and trained by Internews. It reaches more than half the refugee camps in eastern Chad through three community radio stations established by Internews. Even more women are reached through listening groups, where they can discuss among themselves the radio dramas, news programs, and talk shows, without stigma or fear. Your support will keep this essential programming on the air - there is simply no comparable source of information for these women. Please donate now, choosing "Radio for Darfuri Women" as the designation for your online donation, or write it on your check and mail it to Internews, PO Box 4448, Arcata, CA 95518. I encourage you to share this call for support. And please view and share this slideshow, Internews Celebrates Women in Media, which honors the impact that women are making in local media all around the world. With best wishes for International Women’s Day, JoAnne Sullivan Woolley TELL A FRIEND Please forward this bulletin to friends who care about women and media. |
