North Coast Visionaries
Internews Featured on KEET TV Special

Dear Friend,

I thought you might be interested to know that Internews will be featured in “North Coast Visionaries,” an inspiring documentary about social entrepreneurs in Humboldt County, California that premieres on KEET-TV this Thursday, March 12 at 8:15 pm on channel 13. The 20-minute segment on Internews includes interviews with President David Hoffman and me, conducted at Internews’ headquarters in Arcata.

Internews has worked in over 70 countries to train and support local media to provide news and information for their communities. In the program, David and I discuss how Internews’ work creates healthier communities through the free flow of locally produced, editorially independent information.

Funded through a community outreach grant to KEET from FRONTLINE/World, “North Coast Visionaries” is based on the idea that social entrepreneurs create new and sustainable markets and services that benefit underserved communities. Their ideas leap beyond charity to find systemic solutions to poverty, education, health and social justice. The program also features the Blue Ox School of Traditional Arts, a high school of traditional arts for at-risk youth; Economic Fuel: The Humboldt County Student Business Challenge, a privately funded program to train and fund burgeoning entrepreneurs; and Economic Fuel grantee Wild Chick Farm.

“North Coast Visionaries” will be re-aired on KEET at times yet to be determined. The 60-minute program will also be posted online and made available for sale on the KEET web site. (More)

Best,
