When Information Saves Lives
Engaging Local Media in Humanitarian Crises

Today Internews, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Relief (UNOCHA) and the BBC World Service Trust are hosting a panel discussion at the UN in New York called "Left in the Dark: The Unmet Need for Communication in Humanitarian Response." Participants will discuss the information needs of populations affected by crises, share best practices of preparedness and response by national governments, and explore how broadcast media can be mobilized to provide emergency information.

Independent, local media can improve humanitarian relief and enable people in the midst of crisis to take an active role in their own survival and recovery. Click on the images below to learn more.
