Internews Names Renowned Photojournalist for Media Leadership Award

Journalists from Pakistan, Thailand and Haiti Also to Be Honored

Internews will honor James Nachtwey,  one of the most respected photojournalists living today, at the Internews Media Leadership Awards in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, June 2. Nachtwey, who has focused his photography on war, conflicts and critical social issues around the world, was inspired to become a photojournalist by images from the Vietnam War and the American civil rights movement. His work gives testimony to human dignity in the face of human atrocity.

Internews Network will present awards to Nachtwey and three other inspirational media leaders whose work exemplifies the power of information to transform communities and enrich lives around the world. (More)

The following media leaders are also being honored with Internews Media Leadership Awards:

  • Tasneem Ahmar, Director of Uks Research Center, which works to improve reporting on women and human rights in Pakistan (Q&A)
  • RAMAK, a network of 41 community radio stations across Haiti, represented by Jean Fedner Chery, Coordinator General
  • Tepchai Yong, Managing Director of Thai PBS, Thailand’s first independent public broadcaster
