Media, War, and Peace: Harnessing the Power of the Media to Reduce Conflict

The ongoing violence in Kenya, where over 1000 people have been killed in inter-ethnic hostilities, reminds us that journalists face a special challenge—and responsibility—to report accurately and fairly in times of conflict. Internews guides local media to play a constructive role in places embroiled in political, ethnic or religious tensions. From organizing a journalists' roundtable on the media's role in the violence in Kenya, to training radio journalists in politically volatile Pakistan how to report on the upcoming national elections accurately and professionally, Internews aims to bring the light of understanding to the most conflict-ridden corners of the world.
