A Day in the Life of Internews 2006 |

Josephine Kamara, Resident Advisor, Internews Network
in Nigeria
It's 8.30am. I am already checking mails before the new trainees finish breakfast and join the Internews training staff in the training room. The session starts at 9.00am. There are no major requests from the D.C. office this morning. So it's time to join the trainees in the training room. This training will focus on Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) for young people. The hope is that at the end of the training, talk show hosts and producers will create programs that would encourage young people to want to know their HIV status. Journalism skills including production and hosting techniques will also be taught here. Everyone is looking forward to meeting two of our guest speakers today. They are both people living with HIV/AIDS. For most of the trainees, it's their first close-up meeting with someone who's HIV-positive, and looking healthy. At the end of the meeting, a trainee walks up to me and asks "Are you sure he's HIV-positive?" The day ends. |
