Internews Briefing:
Prospects for Independent Media in Putin’s Russia

Internews Network and the Center for Democracy, Development and Rule of Law (CDDRL) at Stanford University would like to invite you to a special luncheon briefing featuring Manana Aslamazyan, Executive Director of Internews Europe, and board member of Internews Network.

The briefing, “Prospects for Independent Media in Putin’s Russia”, takes place at:

Stanford University

Friday, November 21 from 12 – 1:30 p.m.

Ms. Aslamazyan, formerly president of Educated Media Foundation (originally known as Internews Russia), is a well-known and highly respected figure among Russian and international journalists, who has won numerous awards. Educated Media Foundation (EMF), an independent media organization in Russia, was shut down last year after the Russian government raided EMF’s headquarters in Moscow. The incident mobilized over two thousand Russian journalists from throughout the country to sign an open protest letter to President Putin, but to no avail. The international media extensively covered Ms. Aslamazyan’s story, which highlights the oppression of independent media in Russia today.

Lunch will be served.

More information about the free event and to RSVP.

Ms. Aslamyzyan has been a member of the Russian Federal Broadcast Licensing Committee, and served as one of three representatives on the influential Federal Competition Commission of Russia’s Ministry of Press, TV Broadcasting and Mass Media. She is a board member of the prestigious Academy of Russian Television, and served for three years as a Vice-President of the National Association of TV and Radio Broadcasters.
