Mark Frohardt, Vice-President for Africa and Health and Humanitarian Media, joined Internews in 1999 to pursue his longtime interest in bringing media technologies to bear on crisis situations in isolated parts of the world. As Deputy Chief of Mission for the United Nations Human Rights Field Operation in Rwanda (May 1995 to June 1997), Frohardt headed HRFOR Mission operations, including human rights programs, monitored ongoing human rights violations, and provided the principal analysis of the political and security situation in country guiding HRFOR policy in that period. Prior to his work in Rwanda, Frohardt established the Washington offices of the Center for the Study of Societies in Crisis, which included the development of practical protection strategies for minorities at risk of human rights violations in Bosnia-Herzegovina. This work was an outgrowth of his years (1990-1993) as an Emergency Management Consultant, working with INTERTECT Relief and Reconstruction Corp. in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyz Republic. |
