Internews in Indonesia Re-launches Radio Training Manuals
(April 14, 2007) In honor of the eighth anniversary of Internews in Indonesia
and the 25th anniversary of Internews Network worldwide, Internews in Indonesia
has republished its back catalogue of media training manuals as e-publications.
The manuals were researched and written in Indonesia by local and international
experts in the late 1990s and early 2000s. These texts represented the
first practical radio production guides available in Bahasa Indonesian,
and were used by Internews trainers in seminars and in on-site trainings
at radio stations across Indonesia. These manuals were distributed in
hard copy to radio stations and university journalism departments between
2000 and 2001, but they have not been available to young journalists
and new radio stations since that time.
Meanwhile, Internet access has improved markedly in Indonesia, and so
most radio stations will now be able to access the manuals online.
To make them available in a virtual format, Internews had to retype
and re-format many of the texts. The manuals are available on the Internews
in Indonesia website on April 14, which marks the eighth anniversary of Internews’ operations
in the country.
The manual titles include:
- Radio Journalism Guidelines
- Cool Edit Pro Operating Guidelines
- Marantz Professional Recording Operating Guidelines
- Radio Station Management
- Radio Station News
- Radio Station Programming
- Radio Station Sales and Marketing
- Radio Station Promotions
- Radio Station Technology
- Radio Station Research
Internews
Network will celebrate 25 years of media development on May 3, World
Press Freedom Day, in Washington D.C., with an awards ceremony for three
women media leaders and a reception, among other activities. Among the
award recipients is Debra Yatim, one of Indonesia’s leading communicators
and a Director of Visi Anak Bangsa (VAB), an NGO that has specialized
in running public awareness campaigns in post-disaster environments.
VAB worked with Internews to distribute urgent health and safety information
to the victims of the May 2006 earthquake in Yogyakarta and Central Java.
