Application Developed by Internews’ eGov Project in Macedonia is Selected as ePractice.eu Editor's Choice

(March 28, 2008) Apply Online –– "Online Job Applications for the Macedonian Administration" –– has been selected as ePractice.eu Editor’s Choice for the week of February 29. Apply Online was developed by the eGov Project, which is funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Internews Network.

Editor’s Choice distinguishes good practice cases that are particularly interesting to the ePractice.eu community due to the quality and extent of the information provided, the scope of the project, its innovation and relevance for the e-government and e-business sectors.

Apply Online gives job seekers in Macedonia the opportunity to easily apply online for jobs in the public sector in a way that guarantees a fair examination of all applicants without any possibilities for discrimination or undue preference.

The system covers all recruiting tasks performed by the Civil Servants Agency. After an automated screening determines that the applicant has met all of the qualifications, an invitation is sent to take a test. The testing is performed electronically and the result is published immediately after pressing the "complete" button. The system then grades the applicants down to the final shortlist of five candidates.

The new system has eliminated the previous cost of close to 5,000 denar (about $130) per application, as well as providing a system that is easy to use and is transparent. The computerized testing has eliminated fraud and human mistakes when checking the results. 93% of all applicants for public sector jobs use the system.
