LINK TV: TELEVISION WITHOUT BORDERS

Link TV - Television without Borders

Link TV is the first nationwide television channel dedicated to providing Americans with global perspectives on news, events and culture. Based in San Francisco, Link TV is dedicated to connecting Americans with the greater world through news programs, international documentaries and world music videos.

Link TV was founded in 1999 by Internews Network, the Independent Television Service (ITVS), Internews Interactive (InterAct), and the Center for Documentary Media.

Currently, the channel is available as a basic service in over 28 million U.S. homes that receive direct broadcast satellite television (DBS). The DBS broadcast rights for Link TV were obtained under FCC guidelines requiring the DBS operators to allocate 4% of their channels for non-commercial public service programming.

Mosaic - World News from the Middle East

Link TV’s signature program, “Mosaic” features unfiltered selections from daily TV news programs broadcast throughout the Middle East. The news reports are presented unedited and translated, when necessary, into English. These news reports are regularly watched by 280 million people in 22 countries all over the Middle East. “Mosaic” won a 2004 Peabody, radio and television's most prestigious award. This was the first time in the 64-year history of the Peabody that a satellite-only television network has received this honor. See video clips on Link TV's Mosaic Intelligence Report on Google Video.

Through its international documentaries and world music videos, Link TV offers a global perspective on world issues and culture and gives voice to communities that are under-represented by mainstream media. Live call-in programs provoke discussion on global issues by participants that may be separated by ideological differences and thousands of miles, and the Link TV website gives viewers access to tools and connections to take action on social issues.

"We show material you’ll never see on CNN or Fox News Channel. Our goal is to illustrate the fact that the Arab world is not a monolith and that, apart from the war on the ground in Iraq, there is a war of information in the air on satellite. Are some of these networks that we cover biased? Of course. But we feel the American public is intelligent enough to decide for themselves from all that they see. And hopefully, somewhere, the truth emerges."
