Photo Essay:
Pakistan Earthquake - State of the Media
Since the October 8 earthquake in Pakistan, Internews has been gearing up to help the media reach victims with vital information about humanitarian response, and inform citizens and policymakers about the nature and scale of the earthquake and the progress of the relief effort.
Within hours of the earthquake, after they had ascertained that all Internews Pakistan staff and their families were safe, the Internews staff in Islamabad began to conduct a preliminary assessment of the media situation.
As soon as the government of Pakistan lifted restrictions on travel to
Pakistan-administered Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Internews Pakistan’s Resident Advisor Lisa Upton and Sara Farid, the executive producer of the Internews-supported women's radio program “Meri Awaz Suno” (Hear My Voice), traveled there to interview journalists and collect information for broadcast.
Here are some photos from their trip to assess the situation in
Muzaffarabad, the capital city of
Azad Kashmir.
