In recent years, Mongolia’s extensive mineral deposits, notably copper, gold, coal, uranium, tin, and tungsten, have increasingly contributed to the gross domestic product (GDP) and have rapidly attracted foreign direct investment. Mongolia’s chief challenge in the early part of the twenty-first century is how to manage the quickly increasing revenue from its extractive resources.
Through in-depth training and mentoring, Internews is arming journalists with the skills to improve reporting on the mining sector. Internews is working with civic watchdog groups to equip them with the tools they need to help visualize the data which has begun to be generated in the sector to enable them to tell a more compelling and easily understood story to concerned Mongolian citizens and government.
