Westminster Media ForumDaniel Bruce, Chief Executive Officer of Internews in Europe, is speaking at this event, which is being held by the Westminster Media Forum.

This timely seminar will bring out latest thinking on addressing the challenge of fake news, options for policy and implications for the news industry, the digital sector and society more widely.

It takes place with the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee conducting its inquiry examining the impact of fake news and its financial context, and the Government consulting on the Internet Safety Strategy, looking at transparency and digital literacy.

Delegates will discuss options for regulation and self-governance, next steps for developing public awareness and supporting greater media literacy, and the degree to which fake news is affecting public trust in media organisations and political institutions.

They will also assess latest strategies for tackling fake news distribution, including the use and potential limitations of fact-checkers, cross-sector collaboration and industry initiatives, and investment in evidence-based journalism.

The guest of honor is Jimmy Wales, Co-founder, Wikipedia and Founder, Wikitribune.
