Stephen Salyer is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Salzburg Global Seminar, an international NGO, non-profit organization whose mission is to challenge current and future leaders to solve issues of global concern. Stephen has contributed to making Salzburg Global’s program more policy-oriented by building initiatives to strengthen independent media and their impact on development objectives, increasing North-South cooperation on sustainability and encouraging new forms of global philanthropy.

For 17 years, he was CEO of the American organization Public Radio International. Under Stephen’s leadership, the network became a leading developer and distributor of programs with a global perspective and a frontrunner in the use of digital technology to reach younger audiences.

Stephen also served as a vice president and senior vice president at the flagship PBS producer, WNET/Thirteen in New York City. There, he led departments responsible for national program development, international co-production, education and communications. He has also co-founded and chaired a web service company for public television and radio stations called Public Interactive.

Prior to joining Internews’ board, he served as a Global Advisor to the organization.

Stephen is a graduate of Davidson College and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In 2003, he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Davidson College.
